American artist Kay Rosen’s work revolves around the use of text and colour -she likes to play with words – investigating and presenting alternative ideas that come from challenging the systems and rules of language. Rosen believes grammar and the visual strategies of typography and layout are critical to interpretation, and explores this in her work using colour, composition and scale. Through the deployment of strategies that have as much to do with design, advertising, and fine art, as with linguistics, she shows us that language is capable of doing very surprising things.
